Mario has been building model boats since 1978. His main interest is ships of the Dominican Republic Navy (or Marina de Guerra Dominicana). In fact, he has built up an extensive database of ships of the Dominican Republic for the last ten years.

Most of his models are built to 1:48 scale. About the 173ft Patrol Boat he writes:

"The original hull was build with American pine using the bread and butter system, then I prepare a master mold in fiberglass.

This model was build at 1/48 scale using plans from the American archives with the help of a specific book that explains all the details of bridge etc.

Currently, I am building another floating dry-dock of 200 feet long (50 inch at 1/48 scale) and two models of a Tugs using original plans supplied by Damen Shipyard in Holland, for CIRAMAR SHIPYARD in the Dominican Republic.

Tomorrow is the opening of the Dominican Maritime Museum
project, in which I will help with several big models."
