African Queen

by Steve
(San Diego)

This is a scratch built model of the African Queen. It is 43 inches long and has a beam of 13 inches. It is constructed from mahogany plywood and skinned with a fiberglass shell for durability. I decided to build this boat because as a kid I loved the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland and as an adult I was captivated by Bogart and Hepburn in the movie "The African Queen". This boat is powered by a single 550 can motor that pushes it along at the speed of a moderate paced walk at full throttle. It always gets lots of looks at the boat pond down here in San Diego.
